"Live Earth" event in Second Life tomorrow (July 7)

David Alexander sends news that an in-world event paralleling the "Live Earth" concerts will occur tomorrow in the Better World Island sim (teleport SLURL.)  Live Earth is a a 24-hour, seven-continent music extravaganza that will bring together more than 150 music artists with the goal of inspiring a world movement to combat the climate crisis.

World Peace Display Needs a New Home

For the past couple of months I have been working with the creator of the inter-faith religious display to prepare it for official launch. Unfortunately, the party who had been funding the space is pulling out of the project just as we near completion.

Long Now Foundation Director interviewed in Kula tomorrow at 2:30PM

Habeas Corpus Rally today at 12 noon EST in DC and Second Life!

I just got word that the American Civil Liberties Union is sponsoring a rally in Washington DC today to call for the restoration of habeas corpus and and end to torture in Guantanamo Bay.  For those who can't make it there, you can still participate by teleporting into the Second Life Capitol Hill and join other virtual demonstrators in a show of support for the rule of law and due process.  Entitled

Update on MacArthur talk on philanthropy and virtual worlds tomorrow at 9AM

Here's a reminder that tomorrow, June 22, at 9AM PST, Jonathan Fanton, the president of the MacArthur Foundation, and Philip Rosedale, CEO of Linden Labs, will come in-world for a conversation on the role of philanthropy in virtual worlds. I just got another message about the event with a new location and dropped in to check it out.

iCommons Summit streamed to SL June 14-17

The iCommons Summit in Dubrovnik, Croatia brings together pioneers of the free Internet "to make sure that, at its crossroads, we guide the world along a path that will enable the kind of free culture and decentralized innovation that has characterized the early years of the Internet." The summit will occur in parallel in-world at the USC Annenberg Public Diplomacy Island (teleport SLURL).

On June 11, 2007, about 30 avatars gathered in the Plush Non-commons Sim to participate in a mixed-reality event – a panel discussion on virtual activism with Glitteractica Cookie ofTechSoup, In Kenzo of Amoration, Jeska Linden of Linden Labs, and Beth Kanter as moderator. Rik Riel was the in-world moderator of the event, and Nexeus Fatale provided tech support.
